2011 Grantee Partners

In 2011, The members of The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem awarded $108,856 in grants to six local nonprofit organizations to address the economic security of women and girls in Forsyth County.

Community Grants Program 

Communities In Schools of Forsyth County, Inc. was awarded $29,920 for the Achievement Incubators program to provide workshops and comprehensive enrichment activities and support services for 50 at-risk Forsyth County female high-school students.

Forsyth Medical Center Foundation was awarded $16,700 for Girls on the Run, an after-school program for 8-11 year-old girls which provides a unique combination of character building activities and increasing physical activity to address girls’ development and attitudinal issues related to self-esteem and healthy living.  

Smart Start of Forsyth County was awarded $15,000 for the Child Care Professional Educational Aid program which provides the financial resources for child care professionals to pursue higher degrees in early childhood education fields.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools was awarded$29,910 to fund a bilingual social work assistant to provide an array of services and resources to Latina teen mothers to help them to stay in school.

Grassroots Grants Program

Dress for Success Winston-Salem was awarded $10,000 for the Transitioning Women into the Workplace program to provide professional attire and a support program to help disadvantaged women get and maintain employment.

Family Promise of Forsyth County was awarded $7,326 for the Moving Forward-Step by Step to a Healthier Family program to provide financial literacy skills to homeless women whose families are served by the Interfaith Hospitality Network.  

In addition to these grants, The Women’s Fund allocated an additional $20,000 to be directed towards community-based teen pregnancy prevention efforts.  These funds were distributed through a mini-grant process in May 2012.
